Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has strongly condemned the recent attack and vandalism at the Jatiya Party office in Kakrail, calling the incident an assault on democratic values.

In a statement issued on Friday, the BNP expressed deep concern over the attack, which it described as an act carried out by “unruly elements.” The party warned that such incidents, especially following the July uprising, could create confusion and disillusionment among the public about the country’s democratic transition and its pursuit of a just society.

“This act contradicts democratic principles and the spirit of the July movement,” the BNP said. “While differences of opinion are natural, resorting to force to suppress freedom of expression reflects an authoritarian mindset.”

The BNP emphasized that a genuine democracy requires the existence of multiple political parties, and a party’s survival or ability to carry out activities should be determined by the will of the people, not through intimidation or violence.

“Attempting to shut down the legitimate activities of a political party through fear and coercion is incompatible with the principles of an inclusive, multi-party democracy,” the statement continued.

The BNP concluded by vehemently condemning the attack and calling for greater respect for democratic norms and political coexistence.
