BNP Secretary-General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has condemned and protested the attack on the leaders and activists of the Gano Odhikar Parishad. He expressed his condolences to those injured in the attack, including Gano Odhikar Parishad President Nurul Islam Nur and General Secretary Rashed Khan, among other leaders and workers.
In a statement sent on Friday night, he said that BNP respects all forms of peaceful political activities and does not support any actions that create obstacles in a democratic environment. The party strongly condemns any attacks on healthy political programs.
He further stated that BNP expresses deep concern over the attack and demands legal action against those involved. He also wished a speedy recovery to all the injured leaders and activists, including Nurul Hock Nur, and appealed to the relevant authorities to ensure their proper treatment.
On the evening of the same day, clashes broke out between two parties in front of the office of the Jatiya Party in Kakrail, followed by a counter-chase. Later, around 8:15 pm, there was another clash between Gano Odhikar Parishad leaders and law enforcer. Several leaders and activists, including Nurul Hock Nur, were injured, with some of them being sent to the hospital in critical conditions.
Police and army personnel arrived at the scene and attempted to control the situation, but the clashes continued until 9:00 pm.
