A senior leader of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party on Friday urged the Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus to declare a clear election roadmap within three days and immediately show door to some advisers in the interim administration.

“Announce a clear election roadmap by today, tomorrow or a day after,” Zainul Abedin Farroque, an adviser to the BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, said while addressing a rally in front of the Jatiya Press Club in the capital.

He also urged the Chief Adviser to ask three of his advisory council members, including the National Security Adviser Khalilur Rahman, to resign.

“You may ask them for their resignation or you may show them the door,” he told the gathering organized by the Aparajeya Bangladesh.

Farroque said that during the July uprising, you were appointed as the Chief Adviser with the sympathy of millions of people.

“It has now been nine months…yet you have failed to provide any roadmap for the elections. You have mentioned that elections would be held between December and June, but there has been no concrete discussion on that either,” he said.

The BNP leader asked, “Who are the people around you who do not want elections? Who is provoking you not to hold elections?”

Over the rumour of his resignation, Farroque said “You came to power with public admiration. Don’t leave being criticised — that would hurt us. We hear that you might be planning to resign. A kind of instability has developed. Who is responsible for this unrest? Remove them and announce the election roadmap. It is your insiders who are creating this instability — not the BNP.”

“You [Yunus] are not just an individual, you are 18 crore Bangladeshis’ Yunus. We don’t want your resignation,” he added.

Farroque also took a swipe on National Security Adviser for making a comment on BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman.

He demanded that the statement the security adviser had issued should be withdrawn immediately.

BNP joint secretary general Abdus Salam Azad and Mir Sarafat Ali Sapu, among others, also addressed the rally with the organization’s vice-president MA Azad Chayon in the chair.
