Leaders and activists of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) began assembling in front of the party’s central office in Nayapaltan on Wednesday afternoon to join the Victory Rally, previously announced by the party to mark the first anniversary of the July uprising.
Processions from various wards across the capital started arriving at the venue from around 1:15pm, with supporters chanting slogans in support of party leaders Tarique Rahman and Khaleda Zia.
In addition to BNP activists, members of affiliated organisations including Jubo Dal, Swachhasebak Dal and Chhatra Dal also joined the rally.
The programme is part of a countrywide observance announced by BNP on August 5, with rallies taking place at upazila and thana levels. Wednesday’s event serves as the main divisional and metropolitan gathering for Dhaka.
