A local BNP activist was hacked to death on Tuesday night in Sharsha Upazila of Jashore district. The victim, identified as Liton Hossain (30), the son of Asgar Ali and a resident of Durgapur village under Laxmanpur Union. He was known as an active member of the local union unit of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).
His father, Asgar Ali, alleged that there had been ongoing political rivalry between his son and local Awami League leaders, including Abdul Momin, Selim Hossain, and Ramzan Ali. He claimed this conflict likely led to the murder.
According to local sources, the incident occurred around 10pm when Liton was having tea at a local market. A group of miscreants, armed with lethal weapons, suddenly attacked and hacked him. Hearing his screams, bystanders rushed to the spot, but the attackers fled before they could be apprehended. Liton was immediately taken to the Sharsha Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Police have launched an investigation into the incident. No arrests had been reported at the time of filing this report.
