The bloodied and partially unclothed body of a missing 9-year-old girl was recovered from the second floor of a local mosque in Sarail upazila of Brahmanbaria, a day after she went missing.

The body of the victim, Moyna Akhter, was found on Sunday (July 6) morning at Chhandomiar Para in Shahbazpur Union. Moyna was the daughter of expatriate Abdur Razzak and a fifth-grade student at Latif Mostari Government Primary School. She also studied in the Noorani section of a local madrasa.

According to police and family sources, Moyna went out to play on Saturday afternoon (July 5) but did not return. Her family searched for her throughout the area and even made public announcements via loudspeakers. The next morning, some children entered the Hablipara Jame Mosque and discovered Moyna’s bloodied body on the second floor. The mosque’s imam immediately informed her mother.

Villagers later found Moyna’s body unclothed, with a piece of cloth wrapped around her neck. Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI), and army personnel visited the scene and recovered the body.

The incident has sparked widespread shock and fear in the area, with locals demanding justice for the brutal killing.

Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) of Sarail Circle, Tapon Sarkar, said the body was sent to Brahmanbaria General Hospital for autopsy. “There were signs of injury on her body. Two people have been taken into custody for questioning. Whether the girl was sexually assaulted will be confirmed after the autopsy report,” he added.
