A bird got hit with the engine of a flying flight of the Biman Bangladesh Airlines, forcing the pilot to make an emergency landing at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on Friday.
The engine of the Singapore-bound plane was damaged partially in the bird strike, a Biman official said.
The incident took place shortly after the aircraft took off from the airport. The flight returned to the airport after climbing to an altitude of 2,500 feet.
The flight, BG 584, operated by a Boeing 737-800 aircraft, took off at 8:38am (Bangladesh time) with 154 passengers and 7 crew members on board.
ABM Rowshan Kabir, an official from the public relations department of Biman Bangladesh Airlines, confirmed the matter. Realising the trouble, the captain safely brought the flight back to the airport, he added.
Biman sources said that the flight’s passengers were flown to Singapore by another flight later in the day.
A Biman source reported that all passengers and crew members were safe in the incident.
The plane landed safely at 8:59am and was subsequently moved to Bay 14 of the airport. All passengers and crew members were safe and unharmed, confirmed Md Mahmudul Hasan Masun, spokesperson for the Executive Director of the airport.
