A large rui fish and two chital fish from the Padma river have been sold for Tk 89,000 in open auctions at two fish warehouses in Daulatdia, Goaland in Rajbari.

According to local sources, a 15kg rui caught early Saturday was brought to a warehouse for open auction. Local fish trader Samrat Shahjahan Sheikh purchased it for Tk 49,500 at Tk 3,300 per kg.

At another warehouse, two chital fish weighing 12kg and 7kg were sold for Tk 28,800 and Tk 10,500 respectively, each at Tk 2,400 per kg.

“Padma’s rui has high demand, and large specimens are rare. I bought the fish in an open auction and later sold it,” Shahjahan Sheikh told TIMES of Bangladesh.

District fisheries officer Md Nazmul Huda said the recent rise in the Padma’s water level has led to increased catches of large fish of various species, enabling fishermen to secure good prices.
