Joe Biden has thanked people around the world for their support after revealing he has aggressive prostate cancer that has spread to his bones. He said, “Cancer touches us all,” and shared that he and his wife Jill feel strengthened by the support.

Biden was diagnosed on Friday after reporting urinary symptoms. His cancer has a high Gleason score of 9, meaning it is severe and has spread.

World leaders, including King Charles — who is also battling cancer — have offered their support. Barack Obama and Kamala Harris also sent messages of encouragement.

Donald Trump expressed sympathy by saying, “I’m surprised the public wasn’t told earlier — reaching stage nine usually takes a long time,” he said at the White House on Monday afternoon.

Biden’s office confirmed the diagnosis was recent and shared in the interest of transparency.
