The Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) is set to install a 150-kilowatt solar power panel on the roof of its Agargaon building. Dhaka Electric Supply Company Ltd. (DESCO) will carry out the installation to promote renewable energy production.
A memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the solar panel installation was signed on Wednesday.
The MoU was signed by Mohammad Kamruzzaman, Company Secretary of DESCO, and Mohammad Maruful Alam, Additional Secretary of BIDA.
The signing ceremony was attended by BIDA Executive Chairman Chowdhury Ashiq Mahmud Bin Harun and DESCO Managing Director Brigadier General Shamim Ahmed, along with senior officials from both organizations.
Chowdhury Ashiq Mahmud Bin Harun welcomed DESCO’s initiative and said, “This step in renewable energy by DESCO will further advance the power sector’s plans.”
Brigadier General Shamim Ahmed emphasized the need to increase renewable energy production in Bangladesh, noting that the country lags behind other South Asian nations in this area.
He added, “Under the guidance of the Adviser to the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources and the Power Secretary, we aim to significantly boost renewable energy production.”
The solar panel on BIDA’s roof will generate 150 kilowatts of electricity. The MoU’s term is set for 20 years, starting from Wednesday. However, both parties may extend the agreement by mutual consent upon expiration.
