The Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase (CCGP) on Wednesday approved two major contracts totalling Tk474.38 crore for the development of Bhomra and Burimari land ports under a World Bank-funded regional connectivity initiative.
The approvals were granted at a meeting chaired by Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, following procurement proposals submitted by the Ministry of Shipping.
For Bhomra Land Port, the committee approved a Tk233.11 crore contract covering the construction of parking yards, sheds, warehouses, and other ancillary facilities. The work will be carried out under the Accelerating Transport and Trade Connectivity in Eastern South Asia (ACCESS) – Bangladesh Phase 1 (BLPA Component) project, overseen by the Bangladesh Land Port Authority (BLPA). The contract was awarded to the TIANEN-DIENCO Joint Venture.
In a separate approval under the same project, the committee sanctioned a Tk241.26 crore contract for the development of Burimari Land Port. This project also includes the construction of parking yards, sheds, warehouses, and other supporting facilities, with TIANEN-DIENCO Joint Venture named as the successful bidder.
The ACCESS project aims to enhance transport and trade connectivity across Eastern South Asia by improving infrastructure at key land ports in Bangladesh, thereby facilitating smoother cross-border trade.
