The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) hosted the inaugural meeting of its standing committee on sweater affairs on August 26.
Held at BGMEA’s Chattogram conference room, the meeting was chaired by Faizul Matin, chairman of the committee.
BGMEA Vice President and Committee Director-in-Charge Mohammad Rafiq Chowdhury highlighted the importance of identifying sectoral challenges and finding appropriate solutions. He also emphasized exploring new markets, particularly in Europe, to boost exports and attract investment, according to a press release from BGMEA.
Rafiq assured that integrated efforts would focus on securing policy support, improving infrastructure, providing specialized training to enhance entrepreneurs’ technical skills, and ensuring compliance with international brand standards to maintain quality.
Chairman Matin raised several concerns, including underpricing, shrinking markets, labour shortages, gas supply issues, and HS code complexities. He called for addressing these challenges through dialogue with relevant stakeholders.
BGMEA Director Rakibul Alam Chowdhury, Co-Chairman Shibbir Ahmed, and committee members Babul Das, Mohammad Mohiuddin, and Bijon Pal also attended the meeting.
