Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) is exploring a partnership with Brussels-based Amfori to simplify audit processes and promote sustainable practices in the country’s apparel sector.

The move was discussed in a meeting on August 6, 2025, between BGMEA Acting President Inamul Haq Khan and Amfori Head of Business Development and Network John Stellansson at the BGMEA Complex in Uttara, according to a press release.

Amfori presented a new strategy emphasising supplier-led sustainability, aiming to cut audit duplication and empower manufacturers to play a central role in social and environmental compliance. Stellansson noted the approach would help brands and factories better evaluate supply chain performance and lead times.

BGMEA welcomed the initiative and reaffirmed its commitment to a unified compliance standard, stressing the need for a consolidated audit framework to improve efficiency and reduce costs.

It also praised Amfori’s focus on manufacturers and expressed interest in working together to build industry capacity, share knowledge, and identify areas for factory-level improvement.

Both sides agreed that joint efforts and close collaboration are essential for creating a more efficient, affordable, and transparent audit process. They also discussed exploring pilot projects to advance the partnership.

Amfori is a global business association that supports companies across sectors in managing risk and building resilient, sustainable supply chains.
