Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested two alleged smugglers and seized a large quantity of Indian drugs and contraband during separate operations at three locations along the Kushtia border.
Lieutenant Colonel Rashed Kamal Rony, commanding officer of Kushtia Battalion (47 BGB), confirmed the raids in a press release on Friday.
Acting on precise intelligence, a team from Jamalpur Border Outpost conducted a raid at Kandirpara at around 2am on Thursday night.
The operation led to the arrest of Md Mithun Mondal, 35, and Shahid Hossain, 25. Authorities recovered 20 bottles of liquor, 400 cyproheptadine tablets, and 10 tapentadol tablets, with an estimated value of Tk1.53 lakh.
Earlier, at around 1:10am, Chilmari Border Outpost teams recovered 24 kg of Indian fishing net and 4 litres of octane oil from Gorura field in an abandoned condition. The seized items were valued at Tk1.20 lakh.
Later, at around 4:20 am, Bilgathua Border Outpost conducted a raid in East Bilgathua field, recovering 70 bottles of Phensedyl syrup and 360 cyproheptadine tablets, abandoned by smugglers. The items were valued at Tk1.36 lakh.
The total value of all seized contraband reached Tk 4.09 lakh.
BGB stated that it remains committed to securing the borders and preventing smuggling, drug trafficking, and other illegal activities. The force vowed to continue such operations to curb crime effectively in border areas.
