In a major step towards improving its resource management and international partnerships, the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) has signed a three-year agreement with Japan-based Molten Corporation, naming the global sports equipment giant as its official football partner.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed yesterday at the BFF House by BFF vice president Fahad Karim and Takashi Ozaki, leader of the Molten Asian Group, marking the first time BFF has formalized such a deal with a football manufacturer.

Under the agreement, Bangladesh will annually purchase 2,000 Molten footballs at a discounted rate, while Molten will supply another 2,000 balls free of charge — significantly easing BFF’s financial burden. Molten footballs have already been widely used across BFF-run competitions, with the federation procuring 3,130 footballs in 2023 alone, costing around Tk 1.30 crore.

Fahad Karim revealed that the new partnership will save BFF Tk 50 lakh per year, funds which will now be reallocated toward other equipment as per the needs of the technical and national teams committees.

Strengthening Ties, Strengthening Football

“I’m very happy because I had a lot of discussions with Fahad and finally, I am here to support Bangladesh Football Federation so that they can strengthen the national football team,” said Ozaki while addressing the media.

BFF vice president Fahad emphasized that the federation typically buys footballs using financial aid from the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), and this deal will boost both cost-efficiency and brand value.

“We, the executive committee, are very committed to three key areas — efficient financial management, attracting more sponsorships, and enhancing the brand value of Bangladesh football,” Fahad said.

The Molten deal follows another significant development earlier this year when BFF appointed local brand Dour as the national team’s kit sponsor, showing signs of a more strategic, long-term approach to sponsorship and football development.

As Bangladesh football looks to grow both on and off the pitch, this partnership with Molten signals a promising step in the right direction — one that blends smart financial planning with global collaboration.
