Law Adviser Asif Nazrul has stated that the election date will be announced within a few days and urged everyone to wait patiently.

The adviser made these remarks during a press conference on reforms and contemporary issues held at the Secretariat on Thursday.

When asked whether people, who were unable to vote in the last three to four elections, would be able to cast their votes this time, the adviser replied, “Of course they will. Everyone will be able to vote.”

Regarding the government’s initiatives, he said, “There is no initiative we haven’t taken. Talking about voting rights? When I used to go to class, I would ask students: ‘Who among you has voted?’ They would start laughing. Some would say, ‘Sir, I voted 10 to 12 times.’ 90% would say they didn’t vote. Anyway, our sorrow will end now. We couldn’t vote for 18 years.”

When pressed about the election date, the law adviser said, “Just wait, you’ll hear the announcement in a few days.”

While there are no questions about the 2008 election held under the caretaker government, subsequent elections have faced scrutiny. When asked how they would ensure this election is internationally acceptable, Asif Nazrul responded, “I disagree with the notion that there are no questions about the 2008 election. There is room to question it. Journalists like you who investigate will uncover shocking information about the 2008 election.”

The adviser added, “The Election Commission will oversee the electoral process. I can only tell you about our government’s intention – our intention is to hold the best election in Bangladesh’s history. The chief adviser always emphasises this to us.”
