The commission investigating the BDR massacre has expressed hope that the final report will be completed by June, stating that the inquiry is progressing at full pace.

Members of the investigation commission met with Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus at the state guesthouse Jamuna on Wednesday and briefed him on the progress of the investigation.

Commission Chairman Major General (Retd.) Alam Fazlur Rahman said, “We are communicating with various parties. As this incident occurred 16 years ago, contacting many individuals has taken some time. Several accused individuals are currently residing abroad. We are working with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to track them.”

“We have interviewed some individuals who are currently in prison. There are 23 individuals overseas who need to be contacted for the investigation. Out of them, 8 have already responded and expressed willingness to give statements,” he added.

The commission chief also stated, “We are examining the pattern of killings and torture. The DG was killed first, followed by others. This was a well-planned massacre. Such an operation could not have happened without a prior plan.”

He likened the incident to a historic betrayal, saying, “It feels like another Palashi. We must find the roots of this conspiracy.”

Another commission member, Major General (Retd.) Jahangir Kabir Talukder, remarked, “Despite such a horrific massacre, not a single official or employee was removed. No one was held accountable. This reflects the failure of intelligence agencies, the military, and political leadership.”

Assuring full government support, the Chief Adviser said, “They brutally murdered their own officers. The operation was carried out in a planned way.”

Stressing the importance of the investigation, he added, “The entire nation is looking to this commission. We are all searching for answers. The commission must succeed in uncovering the truth. This mystery must be solved.”

Other members of the BDR massacre investigation commission present at the meeting included Brigadier General Md. Saidur Rahman, Munshi Alauddin Al Azad, Dr. M. Akbar Ali, Md. Shariful Islam, Shahnewaz Khan Chandan, and ATKM Iqbal.
