The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has formally demanded Tk 41.60 crore from S.Q. Sports Enterprise Ltd., owners of the Chittagong Kings franchise, accusing them of repeatedly failing to meet financial and contractual obligations relating to the 1st (2012) and 2nd (2013) editions of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) T20 tournament.

In a statement on Thursday, the board said S.Q. Sports Enterprise, who also owned the Kings in the 11th edition of the BPL, had “persistently breached its legal and financial obligations” over the first two editions. These breaches included unpaid franchise fees, tax liabilities, and outstanding payments to players and team personnel.

The BCB said it had issued “multiple reminders and notices” to the company between 2013 and 2025, including a Notice of Arbitration dated 7 May 2013 and a legal notice on 22 July 2025, but the debts remained unpaid.

In September 2024, the parties signed a settlement agreement allowing the company to clear the matter by paying Tk 3.50 crore. The BCB claims no payment was made, leading to the termination of that agreement on 22 July 2025. That same day, the board also terminated the Chittagong Kings’ franchise rights and issued an updated claim of Tk 41.60 crore.

This amount comprises an original outstanding sum of Tk 17.05 crore, accrued interest of Tk 24.55 crore from 2012 to 2025, and adjustments for the depreciation of the Bangladeshi Taka against the US dollar. The total also reflects payments the BCB says it made on behalf of the franchise.

The board stressed that S.Q. Sports Enterprise is no longer eligible to settle the matter for the previously agreed Tk 3.50 crore. It confirmed it is “continuing to take all available legal remedies” to recover the money.

The BCB also accused the company of failing to make various payments in connection with the 11th edition of the BPL, including amounts owed to players, the team’s coach, hotels and vendors. It said it continues to receive complaints and legal notices from stakeholders over these unpaid dues.

Updated amounts (in crores of taka):

Original outstanding amount: Tk 17.05 crore
Accrued interest (2012–2025): Tk 24.55 crore
Total outstanding: Tk 41.60 crore
