Bangladesh have secured qualification for the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup for the second time in their history, despite a seven-wicket defeat to Pakistan in their final match of the World Cup Qualifiers.

The Tigresses, who made their maiden appearance in the 50-over showpiece in 2022, finished second in the qualifiers with six points and a net run rate of 0.639, narrowly edging out the West Indies (0.626 NRR) on net run rate. Pakistan topped the table, also with six points, having already secured their spot prior to the final round.

West Indies, needing a big win to stay in contention, defeated Thailand by six wickets and chased down a target of 166 in just 10.5 overs. However, it wasn’t enough to surpass Bangladesh’s superior run rate, and the Caribbean side were left heartbroken, missing out by the narrowest of margins.

This year’s World Cup will feature eight teams and is set to take place in India from 29 September to 26 October.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has extended its congratulations to the women’s national team on their qualification. BCB President Faruque Ahmed praised the squad and support staff for their collective effort.

“I congratulate our team on securing a place in the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025,” said Ahmed. “I would also like to sincerely thank the coaching staff and team management for their tireless efforts behind the scenes.

“As we look ahead to the World Cup in India, I urge the players to remain focused and determined in their preparation. The BCB stands fully behind you. We will provide all necessary support to ensure that you go into the tournament in the best possible shape. We believe in your talent and potential to make the nation proud on the world stage.”

The Tigresses will now turn their attention towards rigorous preparation as they aim to make a lasting impression at the global tournament.
