B’baria child murder: Imam and muezzin remanded

A court in Brahmanbaria has granted remands to the imam and muezzin of a mosque for questioning in a case filed over the murder of nine-year-old girl Moyna in Shahbazpur union of Sarail upazila.

Brahmanbaria Senior Judicial Magistrate Md Samiul Alam on Wednesday granted permission to take the imam of the mosque Hamidul Islam on a 3-day remand and Muezzin Saidul Islam on a 2-day remand.

Advocate Nuruzzaman Laskar Topu, the lawyer representing the plaintiff, said they are continuing their legal fight to ensure that those who are responsible for this heinous crime are brought to justice.

He said, “We are giving utmost importance to the matter of getting justice for the child’s family. Today, we presented our statement in detail in the court and the judge has granted remands to imam and muezzin. Hopefully, the real truth of the incident will come out very soon.”

Earlier, police had recovered the body of nine-year-old Moyna from the second floor of the local mosque in Shahbazpur village on July 6, a day after she went missing. Initial investigation suggests that the child was raped before being murdered.

Police sources said that the investigation into the child murder is ongoing, and the entire mystery of the murder will be revealed very soon.
