Bangladesh Institute of Bank Management (BIBM) has appointed Dr Md Ezazul Islam as its new Director General, marking a leadership change at the country’s premier banking education and research institution.
Dr Md Ezazul Islam, a career central banker, joins BIBM from Bangladesh Bank, where he most recently served as Executive Director Grade 1 in charge of the Monetary Policy Department.
During his tenure at the central bank, he played active roles on the Monetary Policy Committee, the Foreign Exchange Auction Committee and the Money Market Operations Committee, contributing to modernising Bangladesh’s monetary policy framework and the adoption of an interest rate corridor.
Dr Islam was credited with advancing liquidity management and improving money market operations and instruments, roles that drew on his more than three decades of experience in monetary, fiscal and exchange rate policy. His career at Bangladesh Bank began in 1992 and culminated in senior executive leadership.
An accomplished economist, Dr Islam has published more than 35 articles on money, credit, exchange rates, banking and macroeconomic issues in refereed journals both in Bangladesh and abroad.
He holds a PhD in Monetary Economics and in 2013 received the Bangladesh Bank Gold Medal Employees’ Recognition Award for outstanding performance.
The appointment comes as BIBM, the national institute for banking training, research and consultancy, positions itself to support the evolving needs of Bangladesh’s financial sector. According to BIBM’s official directory, Dr Md Ezazul Islam is listed as Director General, confirming the spelling and format of his name.
