Bayern Munich are growing increasingly confident of landing Bayer Leverkusen’s Jonathan Tah this summer, with the German champions reportedly offering a lucrative contract to the in-demand defender.

According to Florian Plettenberg, Tah has become one of the most sought-after free agents on the market after confirming he will not extend his current deal with Leverkusen. The 29-year-old’s contract expires this summer, paving the way for a high-profile move.

Barcelona have long admired Tah and remain in the hunt for his signature, despite their ongoing financial constraints. The Catalan giants have made their interest known but may struggle to match the financial terms Bayern are prepared to offer.

The Bavarians, determined to bolster their backline, have identified Tah as a priority target — particularly with Eric Dier set to join Monaco and uncertainty surrounding the future of Kim Min-jae, who is attracting interest from the Premier League. Bayern see Tah as a natural partner for Dayot Upamecano in what is expected to be a restructured defensive setup under new manager Vincent Kompany.

Tah has enjoyed a remarkable rise under Xabi Alonso at Leverkusen, playing a central role in the club’s historic Bundesliga title triumph last season. His leadership and composure at the back were key to Leverkusen’s unbeaten domestic campaign and their qualification for the Champions League for a second successive year.

Now approaching his prime, Tah’s blend of experience, physicality, and tactical intelligence makes him an ideal candidate for a Bayern side looking to reclaim their dominance in Germany and re-establish their credentials in Europe.

With Kompany eager to stamp his authority early in the transfer market, the arrival of Jonathan Tah would be a major statement of intent — and potentially the first piece in a summer rebuild aimed at restoring Bayern to the summit of European football.
