A low pressure area has formed over North Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas. It is likely to intensify further, Met office cautioned.
Due to low pressure influence, the forecasters foresee heavy to very heavy rain in four divisions from 5pm Thursday, in the next 72 hours. The met office said that heavy (44 to 88 millimeters in 24 hours) to very heavy rain may occur in many places in Khulna, Barisal, Chittagong and Sylhet divisions. Due to the very heavy rain, there is a risk of landslides in CHT and other hilly areas of Chittagong and Cox’s Bazar districts, the met office added.
In addition, parts of the Khulna, Barishal, and Chattogram metropolitan areas may experience temporary waterlogging due to heavy downpour. Met office mentioned that under influence of low pressure system, gusty or squally weather may prevail the maritime ports, the North Bay and adjoining coastal areas of Bangladesh.
Sea ports of Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to hoist local cautionary signal No. 3. The Met Office has also advised fishing boats and trawlers over the north Bay area to come closer to the coast and proceed with caution.
