British American Tobacco Bangladesh Company (BATBC) has approved an investment of Tk 297 crore (approximately £20 million) to expand the capacity of its Savar factory, following the recent closure of its Dhaka factory and corporate office.

The decision was made at a Board of Directors meeting held on 25th June 2025.

The investment aims to shift and scale up operations at the Savar facility to ensure continued production and efficiency.

BATBC is set to shut down its Dhaka site on 1 July as it was denied lease contract renewal and also it lost the legal battle.

Funding for the expansion will come from a mix of internal resources and bank financing, backed by the company’s existing cash flow.
