A horrific incident in Muladi, Barishal, has shocked locals after two brothers allegedly gouged out the eyes of their sibling over a family dispute. A disturbing video of the attack circulating on Facebook has sparked outrage and fear in the community.
The incident occurred on the night of August 22, when Rokun Bepari and his younger brother Swapan Bepari, accompanied by several others launched a brutal assault on their elder brother Ripon Bepari. During the attack, they allegedly gouged out Ripon’s eyes, reports UNB.
Following the incident, Ripon’s wife, Nurjahan Begum, filed a case with the Barishal Judicial Magistrate Court on August 25, accusing Rokun, Swapan, and six others.
Public Prosecutor Nazim Uddin Panna confirmed the court has accepted the case and instructed Muladi Police to submit a First Information Report (FIR).
Ripon’s son, Shahin Bepari, said the conflict stemmed from money and gold ornaments his father had entrusted to his uncle Rokun, as well as a long-standing land dispute. Shahin alleged that the uncles summoned his father home from Dhaka under the pretext of settling the matter. A local arbitration was scheduled for the following morning, but on the night of August 22, his uncles and their associates attacked Ripon and gouged out his eyes.
Witnesses rushed the critically injured Ripon first to Gournadi Upazila Health Complex. As his condition worsened, he was transferred to Barishal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital and later, on August 26, shifted to the National Institute of Ophthalmology in Dhaka. He is currently undergoing treatment there.
