Despite the ongoing 12-day Eid-ul-Azha holidays, bank branches in key areas remained partially operational on Wednesday.

Similar partial services will continue on Thursday and Saturday as per Bangladesh Bank’s directives.

The government had declared June 11–12 as public holidays through an executive order, extending the festive break.

However, to ensure uninterrupted export-import activities, branches, sub-branches, and booths in port and customs areas remained open from June 5–12, except on Eid day.

Additionally, banks in major apparel hubs—including Dhaka, Savar, Gazipur, Bhaluka, Narayanganj, and Chattogram operated on a limited scale on June 5 and 11.

Similarly, transactions will continue from 10am to 2pm on Thursday.

Authorised dealer branches in commercially significant areas will also remain open on Thursday like Wednesday June to facilitate foreign currency transactions.

Meanwhile, branches in mango-producing regions (Rajshahi, Chapainawabganj, Naogaon, and Natore) will operate on Saturdays until July 31.

Before Eid, banks set up booths in cattle markets (haats) to assist buyers and sellers with cash counting and counterfeit bill checks. Nearby branches were instructed to extend services until 10pm during this period.

To minimise disruptions from the extended holidays, banks remained open on May 17 and 24 (Saturdays).

Regular operations will resume nationwide on June 15.
