Cultural Affairs Adviser Mostofa Sarwar Farooki has expressed optimism that Bangladesh’s friendly relations with ASEAN (Association of South-East Asian Nations) countries will strengthen further in the coming days, stating that the roots of these relations, built on shared history, heritage, culture, and religious beliefs, run deep.
The cultural affairs adviser made these remarks as the chief guest at an event organised by the Royal Thai Embassy in Dhaka on Thursday morning, commemorating ASEAN Day.
Farooki also said that the mutual connections and bonds between the peoples of these nations have endured for a long time. He highlighted that the ASEAN bloc presents golden opportunities in tourism, investment, trade, and employment and emphasised the need for proactive initiatives to capitalise on these prospects.
The event also featured speeches by Brunei’s High Commissioner to Dhaka Haris bin Othman and Malaysia’s High Commissioner Shuhada Othman.
ASEAN was established on August 8, 1967, with the goal of promoting economic growth, social progress, cultural development, and regional peace and stability among Southeast Asian nations.
