Bangladeshi peacekeepers made supreme sacrifices for world peace: General Waker

Bangladesh army chief General Waker Uz Zaman in a message on the occasion of International Day of UN Peacekeepers (29th May) greeted all Bangladeshi blue helmets who have made supreme sacrifices for world peace.

As a major contributing country to UN peacekeeping missions this day hold special significance for us, the general said, adding at least 131 blue helmets of Bangladesh army made supreme sacrifices and became martyrs. Some 281 Bangladeshi peacekeepers got injured.

Paying rich tributes, General Waker said “I recall with deep respect the valiant peacekeepers who have made supreme sacrifices to ensure world peace.”  On the occasion of international peacekeeper’s day, I wish to congratulate all currently serving d in duties associated with keeping world peace and also to all those who have completed peace missions, General Waker said.

“As a nation Bengalees are peace loving and determined to keep peace. Bangladesh army is working tirelessly to establish world peace. From 1988 onwards, more than three decades of time, 1,62,035 blue helmets of Bangladesh army have served in 40 geographical spaces and in 56 UN peace keeping missions. The members of Bangladesh army always serve with high neutrality and determination alongside maintaining high professional standards while serving missions.

The reputation of Bangladesh in world stage has become enhanced as our peacekeepers have received accolades and appreciation from all missions. General Waker said this remarkable achievement of Bangladesh army in the field of world peace is the result of many years of sacrifice and hard work. General Waker said Bangladesh army is ever ready to combat all current situation prevailing in UN peacekeeping missions. Recently in DR Congo mission, the general said, Bangladesh army has deployed three helicopters.

In Central African Republic, in a bid to strengthen brotherhood “Toadera community clinic” was established under full supervision and management of Bangladesh army. Our army has presented remotely operated vehicle to Peruvian army for deactivating explosives. The number of female blue helmets from Bangladesh army has increased which eventually contributed to bolstering acceptability of our army. Overall international standard training, modern gadgets, deep respect for human rights and higher ethical values helped our blue helmets earn respect and admiration in the mission area as well as from the United Nations.

The general expressed hope that concerted efforts of all members of the United Nations would pave ways of establishing world peace.
