Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Majlis, in a discussion meeting, demanded a permanent end to the culture of oppression and torture against individuals for political reasons. They also criticised the government’s delaying tactics in formulating the July Charter.

The speakers said, “The July uprising was organised to abolish the repressive state system and ensure social security and human rights. We must build a democratic Bangladesh where the government belongs to everyone. To ensure no one is harassed merely for holding differing views, political detention must end.”

These calls were made at a discussion titled “July Revolution: Expectations, Achievements, and the Path Ahead” held at the Reporters Unity in the capital on Thursday.

As the chief guest, Secretary General of Khilafat Majlis Dr Ahmad Abdul Kader said in his speech, “We must build a discrimination-free Bangladesh by establishing social justice and equality, where every person will have equal opportunities. There will be no repressive measures. This is the way of Islam. This is the new order.”

Abdul Kader called upon all political parties to implement the new order. He said, “We must eradicate fascism, corruption, extortion, human rights violations, and autocracy from society. Neither police nor judges will be influenced by anyone’s phone calls. The judicial process will be transparent. Society must be built on justice so that no one can become fascist or autocratic again.”

He further said, “The July uprising was the first movement in the country where both leftists and rightists took to the streets together. This was achieved through everyone’s collective effort, and we must sustain this achievement.”

The keynote paper at the event was presented by the organisation’s former president, Dr Mustafizur Rahman Faisal. He said, “Economic, social, and judicial institutions must not be politicised. Every citizen’s participation in political and economic spheres must be ensured.”

He added, “Secret policing, military-dependent governance, and political detention must end. To fulfill the aspirations of the July uprising, we must stay united without creating divisions among ourselves.”

The event was chaired by President of Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Majlis Mohammad Rayhan Ali Former and current leaders and activists of the organisation were also present.
