Bangladesh’s U-18 men’s hockey team are set to face a formidable Japanese side in the semi-final of the Men’s U-18 Asia Cup tomorrow in Dazhou, China. The match begins at 3 pm Bangladesh time.
The eight-nation tournament, organised by the Asian Hockey Federation, serves both as a developmental platform and a showcase of emerging talent across the continent. Bangladesh have made a strong impression, reaching the semi-finals for the first time in this age group’s continental event.
They secured their place in the last four as Pool A runners-up after a series of encouraging results. Bangladesh opened their campaign with a 3-0 win over Hong Kong China, followed it up with a commanding 13-0 victory against Sri Lanka, and then beat hosts China 5-2. In their final group game, however, they fell 6-3 to Pakistan in a high-scoring contest.
Japan, champions of Pool B, have been flawless so far, winning all five of their group matches. Known for their speed, discipline and structured play, they are among the tournament favourites and present a significant challenge for Bangladesh.
Despite the odds, Bangladesh will take confidence from their attacking performances and will be hoping to make history by reaching the final of the U-18 Asia Cup for the very first time.
