Bangladesh have dropped to tenth in the ICC ODI rankings, following a crucial win by the West Indies over Pakistan, despite not playing a match themselves.
After briefly climbing to ninth place in July with a win over Sri Lanka, Mehidy Hasan Miraz’s side have now slipped a spot due to the latest developments in the ongoing ODI series between Pakistan and the West Indies.
Shai Hope’s West Indies secured a five-wicket victory via the DLS method in the second match of the three-game series, lifting them to ninth place with 78 rating points. This win also saw Pakistan drop to fifth, with Sri Lanka moving ahead of them.
Before this result, Bangladesh had 77 points and held a narrow edge over the West Indies due to fractional differences. But with the West Indies now on 78, they will remain ahead of Bangladesh in the standings, even if they lose the final match of the series.
India continue to lead the rankings with 124 points, followed by New Zealand and Australia in second and third. Sri Lanka and Pakistan round out the top five.
These rankings are particularly significant in the context of the upcoming ODI World Cup. The top six teams will qualify directly, while the bottom six, including Bangladesh as things stand, will need to navigate a qualifying tournament to secure their spot.
