Bangladesh and Russia on Wednesday discussed ways to expand bilateral cooperation, particularly in the energy sector, as the two countries reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening their longstanding relationship.
Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman and his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov led their respective delegations at a bilateral meeting held in Manila, the Philippines, according to a foreign ministry press release.
Prime Minister’s Foreign Affairs Adviser Humayun Kabir accompanied Khalilur Rahman at the talks.
During the meeting, the two foreign ministers reviewed existing areas of cooperation between Bangladesh and Russia, with a focus on collaboration in the energy sector.
They also exchanged views on further enhancing bilateral cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
Lavrov congratulated Khalilur Rahman on his election as president of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
The Russian foreign minister also welcomed the newly formed Bangladesh-Russia Parliamentary Friendship Group, describing the initiative as a step towards institutionalising legislative cooperation between the two countries.
Both sides agreed to further strengthen bilateral ties and advance cooperation through continued engagement.
