Bangladesh has been re-elected a member of the Council of Administration (CA) of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) at its 28th Congress in Dubai last Thursday, marking the eighth consecutive term for the country.
The Council of Administration oversees UPU’s administration and plays a key role in shaping global postal policies, including budget approval, resource management, and coordinating international postal services. It also addresses challenges in e-commerce and digital communications.
Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser for the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications, and ICT Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb highlighted the role of UPU’s financial support in boosting the Bangladesh Post Office.
Under his leadership, 50 e-bikes were allocated to field runners to improve service efficiency, the ministry said in a press statement.
Diplomatic efforts from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, alongside key officials such as Foreign Adviser Md Touhid Hossain and Ministry Secretary Abdu Nasser Khan, were pivotal in securing the re-election.
UPU, a UN agency, sets global postal standards. Bangladesh’s re-election as a CA member ensures its continued influence in modernizing postal services and expanding digital and e-commerce networks.
This achievement strengthens Bangladesh’s position in global postal affairs and enhances its standing internationally, said the ministry.
