Bangladesh Maritime University observed “July Mass Uprising Day, 2025” on its temporary campus in Dhaka on August 5.

Vice-Chancellor of the university Rear Admiral Dr Khandakar Akhter Hossain, was present at the ceremony as chief guest.

Treasurer, Registrar, Deans, faculty, staff, and students, including those who took part in the July Uprising, were also present at the event, according to a press statement.

The event featured a film screening and documentary honouring the July Uprising, along with a photo exhibition and video documentary organised by the university’s Photography Club.
Wounded students from the uprising were honoured, and prizes were given to winners of the photography and art contests.

In his speech, Dr Hossain paid tribute to the martyrs and injured students of the July Uprising. He reflected on the inevitability of mass uprisings when leaders hide the truth and engage in injustice, corruption, and violence, drawing comparisons with historical uprisings worldwide, including in Russia, China, Europe, and the 1971 Liberation War in Bangladesh.

The Vice-Chancellor also emphasized the importance of preparing students to become skilled professionals in the maritime sector. He urged students to learn languages such as English, Chinese, and Japanese, as well as skills in driving, swimming, AI, robotics, and smart technology, to be ready for the changing demands of the industry.

Dr. Hossain concluded by calling on faculty and students to focus on improving maritime education, research, and publications, while combating corruption and supporting academic accreditation. The event concluded with a group photo.
