An exciting contest is underway at the Changlimithang Stadium in Thimphu as Bangladesh lead Nepal 2–1 at half-time in their SAFF U-17 Women’s Championship encounter.
Despite dominating possession and playing with attacking intent from the outset, Bangladesh have not been able to shake off a resilient Nepalese side. The match statistics reflect Bangladesh’s control, with three shots on target in the first half compared to Nepal’s two. Nepal earned the only corner of the half, while Bangladesh created opportunities through swift passing and pacey attacks.
Goalkeeper Yearzan Begum played a key role in maintaining Bangladesh’s lead, pulling off a crucial save to deny Nepal a potential equaliser. Captain Arpita Biswas anchored the defence confidently alongside Kranuching Marma and Mamoni Chakma, successfully fending off Nepalese threats.
In midfield, Umma Kulsum and Thuinuye Marma covered a lot of ground and worked tirelessly to transition play. Up front, Purnima Marma and Sauravi Akanda Prity frequently broke through Nepal’s backline, creating several chances.
Nepal, too, had their moments. One of their efforts came close to altering the scoreline, striking the woodwork. Playing at an altitude of 2,300 metres above sea level presents its own physical challenges, but the Bangladeshi players have shown grit and determination throughout the first half. Although the tempo occasionally dipped, Bangladesh made consistent efforts to retain control of the ball.
Bangladesh have enjoyed a strong run of results against Nepal in recent age-group tournaments, and that trend is evident again in today’s match.
With the second half still to play, the outcome remains undecided. Nepal will be determined to fight back, while Bangladesh will look to defend their lead and secure a vital victory. The teams are expected to return with renewed energy in front of the Bhutanese spectators in the stands.
