Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus said Bangladesh is prepared for the national elections scheduled for next February.
He made this remark during a joint briefing after a meeting with Malaysia’s Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim in Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday.
The chief adviser said, “Bangladesh is ready to organise elections and all necessary measures are being taken to ensure political stability.”
He also invited Malaysia to invest in Bangladesh, saying, “There is immense potential here.”
Yunus mentioned, “The Rohingya issue is a major crisis for us. Regional cooperation is essential to resolve it, and assistance from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) is necessary.”
Arriving in Malaysia on a three-day official visit, the chief adviser witnessed the signing of five memorandums of understanding (MoUs) and three notes of exchange between the two countries on the very first day of the visit.
These agreements are expected to strengthen cooperation in defence, energy, higher education, halal products sector, research, and trade.
When Chief Adviser Yunus reached the Prime Minister’s Office in Putrajaya, Kuala Lumpur at 9am Anwar Ibrahim welcomed him with a red-carpet reception and provided a Guard of Honor.
Afterwards, Anwar Ibrahim introduced his cabinet members to Muhammad Yunus.
Later, Yunus held a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
