After a disappointing Test series loss, Bangladesh will look to bounce back in the ODIs as they face Sri Lanka in a three-match series beginning today at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.

The series also marks the beginning of Mehidy Hasan Miraz’s tenure as Bangladesh’s full-time ODI captain.

Bangladesh are currently ranked 10th in the ICC Men’s ODI Rankings with 76 rating points. However, they have a clear opportunity to climb one place up the table.

Just one win in the series would see Bangladesh rise to ninth, equalling the West Indies on 77 points but moving ahead on decimal calculations. That would see the West Indies drop to 10th.

Even if Bangladesh secure a 3-0 whitewash, they would not be able to break into the top eight. A sweep would take their rating to 83, but they would still remain in ninth position.

However, a whitewash defeat would hurt their standing. Bangladesh would drop two points and remain in 10th with 74 rating points.

Sri Lanka, on the other hand, sit fourth in the rankings with 104 points. But losing even a single match to Bangladesh would see them fall to fifth. To hold on to fourth place, they must win the series 3-0.
