Bangladesh have dropped one place in the latest FIFA rankings following their 2–1 defeat to Singapore on 10 June in the AFC Asian Cup qualifiers at the National Stadium.
The setback came after a promising performance in March, when Bangladesh held India to a goalless draw in Shillong. That result had lifted Hamza Choudhury’s side two places to 183rd in the world. However, the loss to Singapore has now pushed them down to 184th, with 899.01 ranking points—a decrease of 5.15.
Singapore, on the other hand, benefited from the win and climbed two spots to 159th. Just above Bangladesh now sit Brunei, with 900.62 points.
Since June 2024, FIFA has released eight updates to its global rankings, during which Bangladesh have fluctuated between 183rd and 186th, underlining a period of stagnation for the South Asian nation.
Among neighbouring countries, Sri Lanka recorded the most progress, rising four places to 196th. In contrast, India dropped six spots to 133rd following mixed results. The Maldives slipped seven places to 171st, Nepal fell one to 176th, Bhutan dropped four to 186th, and Pakistan three to 201st.
Bangladesh’s highest-ever FIFA ranking came on 24 April 1996, when they reached 110th in the world. However, inconsistent performances since then have seen the team slide down the table, hitting a low point in 2018 with a ranking of 197th.
At the top of the table, reigning world champions Argentina continue to lead the global standings. Despite defeating Chile 1–0 in June’s World Cup qualifiers, a 1–1 draw with Colombia cost them 0.8 points, bringing their tally to 1885.36.
