Bangladesh Under-19s sealed a spot in the final of the SAFF U-19 Championship with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Nepal in a gripping semi-final showdown in India.
The first half saw both teams locked in a tactical battle. Bangladesh looked the more adventurous side, consistently probing down the wings, but Nepal’s defence stood resolute. With quick counters and organised defending, Nepal managed to keep the game level, and the first half ended goalless despite Bangladesh’s attacking intent.
Bangladesh, however, came out with renewed energy in the second half. Their growing control of the match was soon reflected on the scoresheet when Ashikur calmly slotted home the opener, giving Bangladesh a well-deserved lead.
That advantage was swiftly doubled as striker Manik delivered a delightful ball into the box, which was met by Faysal for a simple tap-in to make it 2-0.
Nepal did respond with a late goal to set up a tense finish, but it wasn’t enough to overturn Bangladesh’s advantage. The final whistle confirmed Bangladesh’s progression to the final, while Nepal bowed out of the tournament despite a spirited performance.
It was a composed and mature display from the young Bangladesh side, especially in the second half, as they aim to lift the SAFF U-19 title once again.
Bangladesh U-19s will now look to finish the job in the final and continue their strong tradition in regional youth football.
