On Monday, June 23, 2025, the Bangladesh Computer Society (BCS) officially formed its executive committee for the 2025–2027 term, marking a smooth and uncontested transition of leadership. The appointments were confirmed in line with the prescribed electoral schedule, culminating in the Election Board’s announcement that all positions had been filled without competition.

At the helm, Mohammad Zahirul Islam, Managing Director of Smart Technologies (BD) Limited, has been appointed President. He is joined by Mohammad Monirul Islam, Managing Director of Computer City Technologies Limited, who will serve as General Secretary.

The newly formed team also includes several key figures from the ICT sector: Md. Wahidul Hasan Dipu, proprietor of Landmark Computers, as Vice President; Md. Ahsanul Islam, owner of PC Garden, as Joint General Secretary; and Abul Hasan, proprietor of HM Computers, as Treasurer. Oversight responsibilities as Directors will be carried out by Md. Nazrul Islam Hazari of Welkin Computers and Md. Iqbal Hossain, proprietor of Jazi.

This leadership slate took shape after the seven director positions were declared uncontested in the June 21, 2025 election. Following the submission of nomination papers on June 22 and the absence of competing candidates, the Election Board formally announced the appointments on June 23.

The election process was supervised by Sharif Raihan Kabir, Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce, serving as Chairman of the Election Board. He was joined by fellow Deputy Secretaries Sandwip Kumar Sarkar and Md. Sirajul Islam as members. Overseeing the transition, Nahid Afroze, Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Commerce, currently serves as BCS Administrator and is expected to officially hand over authority to the new committee soon.

Founded in 1987, BCS is widely regarded as Bangladesh’s foremost ICT professional body, with a nationwide presence through 11 branches and nearly 3,700 registered member firms. The society has been instrumental in promoting the country’s ICT agenda through advocacy, policy development, training initiatives, and high-profile annual exhibitions.

The new committee is now tasked with leading BCS for the next two years—enhancing member services, expanding professional training and certification programs, and strengthening collaboration between the ICT industry and government in support of Bangladesh’s digital transformation.

As BCS embarks on this new chapter, its mission remains steadfast: to harness collective expertise and unity in advancing the nation’s next wave of ICT development.
