Bangladesh and China have solidified their collaboration in the semiconductor industry through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Bangladesh Semiconductor Industry Association (BSIA) and the Hubei Semiconductor Industry Association (HSIA). The MoU was signed today at a ceremony in Dhaka, with M A Jabbar, president of BSIA, and Professor Wei Liu, vice-president of HSIA, representing their respective organizations.

This agreement outlines key areas of cooperation, including the exchange of knowledge and technology, joint research and development (R&D) efforts, and human resource development through specialized training programs. Both associations also aim to encourage cross-border investment and forge business partnerships, with plans for joint events, trade delegations, and expos to further promote the collaboration.

Professor Wei Liu, vice-president of HSIA and academic leader at Wuhan University’s School of Integrated Circuits, emphasized Wuhan’s technological strengths, particularly in optical communication and semiconductors. He highlighted the city’s rich academic environment, noting its 60 universities and significant student population, which has helped it become a global innovation hub.

Liu remarked, “Bangladesh’s skilled workforce presents strong potential for cooperation, not only in technology exchange but also in engineering training and academic partnerships. HSIA, representing 500 semiconductor companies, plans to bring some of these companies to Bangladesh for joint ventures and technology transfers.”

M A Jabbar, president of BSIA, expressed optimism about the agreement’s impact on Bangladesh’s semiconductor sector. He stated, “This MoU is an important step toward enhancing the business, academic, and technological ties between Bangladesh and China. It will help us strengthen our position in the global semiconductor market.”

The partnership aims to accelerate growth in Bangladesh’s semiconductor ecosystem, fostering innovation and boosting its global competitiveness.
