An auto-rickshaw driver was brutally murdered and his vehicle stolen by unidentified assailants in Kalukhali Upazila of Rajbari district on Wednesday. The victim, identified as Aslam Pramanik (42), was a resident of Char Lakshmipur village in Jashai Union, under Pangsha Upazila. He was the son of Fenu Pramanik.

According to police, the body was recovered early Wednesday morning from the Chandana River in the Chandpur area of Kalukhali. Police suspect that the killers murdered Aslam and dumped his body in the river after snatching his vehicle. Aslam’s elder brother, Shahjahan Pramanik, told reporters that Aslam had left home on Tuesday morning with his auto-rickshaw but never returned.

“We searched for him all night but couldn’t find him. Early Wednesday, we heard that a body had been found in the Chandana River. We went to the scene and saw it was my brother,” he said. Debabrata Sarkar, Assistant Superintendent of Police (Pangsha Circle), confirmed the incident. “We suspect the motive was to steal the auto-rickshaw. The body has been sent to Rajbari Morgue for an autopsy, and an investigation is underway,” he added.

Police are currently working to identify and apprehend those responsible for the killing.
