Australia sealed the Frank Worrell Trophy with a commanding 133-run victory over the West Indies in the second Test, taking an unassailable 2–0 lead in the three-match series. The win, completed on Day 4 in Trinidad, also marks a perfect start to their new World Test Championship (WTC) cycle.
Resuming their second innings at 221-7, Australia extended their lead to 277 before being bowled out for 243. Shamar Joseph was the standout with the ball for the hosts, returning figures of 4-66.
But the West Indies’ response with the bat was short-lived and underwhelming. Their innings folded for just 143 in 34.3 overs. Roston Chase offered brief resistance with a top score of 34, while Joseph added an entertaining 24 off 11 balls, including three sixes, before falling to Nathan Lyon.
Australia’s bowlers shared the spoils, with Mitchell Starc leading the attack with 3-24. Josh Hazlewood provided key breakthroughs, and Lyon wrapped up the tail with 3-42, moving his career tally to 562 Test wickets—just one behind Glenn McGrath’s 563 and second only to Shane Warne’s 708 among Australians.
Alex Carey was named Player of the Match for his all-round contribution—scoring 63 in the first innings, 30 in the second, and taking four catches behind the stumps. “To win a series for Australia is fantastic,” Carey said, reflecting on the team’s progress since their last encounter with the Windies in 2023–24.
Captain Pat Cummins praised the side’s resurgence after their recent WTC final defeat. “It’s a dream start—two from two to kick off the WTC cycle,” he said.
Australia had won the first Test by 159 runs. The final match of the series—a day-night Test—gets underway this Saturday in Kingston, Jamaica.
