From now on, August 5 will be declared a public holiday every year, said Cultural Affairs Adviser Mostofa Sarwar Farooki, to honour “Student-People’s Uprising Day”.
He told reporters at a press conference at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital on Thursday.
Farooki said the decision to declare August 5 as a National Day commemorating the student-led mass uprising will be finalised at the Advisory Council meeting on Sunday.
The Advisor said that various programmes are being planned from July 1 and will continue till August 5 to bring back the feeling that united the people of the country in the July 2024 mass uprising.
A detailed month-long plan will be announced next Monday and the main phase of the July programme will commence on July 14, Farooki stated.
The Chief Advisor’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam was also present.
He told reporters that these issues were decided on Thursday in a two-hour meeting with the chief adviser. In addition, there are ongoing discussions to make Bangladesh Betar and Bangladesh Television autonomous institutions.
A committee, headed by Education Adviser Dr CR Abrar, will be formed in this regard. This committee will investigate if any television channel has been licensed in the past to fulfill the ideological objectives of the political party, and will also formulate a policy for issuing new licenses in the future.
He further said that another committee has been formed to ensure the announcement of the July Proclamation before August 5. This committee will be led by Planning Adviser Dr Wahiduddin Mahmud.
