The Supreme Court has set May 26 for the next hearing on the government’s appeal against a High Court verdict that acquitted all accused in the August 21 grenade attack case.
Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed announced the date after a hearing on Thursday. The state was represented by Additional Attorney General Abdul Jabbar Bhuiyan and Anik R Haque, while lawyers SM Shahjahan and Shishir Monir stood for the accused.
On December 1, the High Court acquitted all of the accused. The government later filed for permission to appeal that decision.
The 2004 grenade attack on an Awami League rally killed 24 people. In 2018, a trial court sentenced 19 people to death, including ex-ministers Babar and Pintu and BNP leader Tarique Rahman.
The ones who were convicted later filed appeals, and the case moved to the High Court.
