Md Ataur Rahman, ndc, has been appointed as an Independent Director at Bank Asia.
With a distinguished career in public service, Rahman brings extensive experience in governance and leadership to the bank’s board.
According to a press release, Rahman began his career in the Bangladesh Civil Service (Administration Cadre) in 1983 and retired in 2014 as a Secretary to the Government. During his illustrious career, he held various high-ranking positions in crucial ministries and institutions. He served as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs, the Economic Relations Division, and the Energy and Mineral Resources Division. Additionally, he was Director General of the Bangladesh Academy for Rural Development (BARD) and Chairman of the Bangladesh Steel and Engineering Corporation.
Rahman’s leadership extended to several state-owned enterprises, where he chaired three publicly listed companies—Atlas Bangladesh, Eastern Cables, and National Tubes—as well as three fully state-owned companies: Chittagong Dry Dock, Pragati Industries, and Jalalabad Gas Transmission and Distribution System.
He holds a Master’s degree in Economics from the University of Rajshahi and an M.Phil. from the Bangladesh University of Professionals. Throughout his career, Rahman has participated in numerous training programs, seminars, and advanced courses both locally and internationally, demonstrating his commitment to continuous learning and leadership.
