“The 10th day of Muharram stands as one of the most eventful and memorable days in Islamic history, marked by numerous momentous occurrences that render it eternally sacred. This day is observed as Ashura, commemorating the tragic martyrdom of Imam Hussain (RA), the beloved grandson of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), who sacrificed his life on the plains of Karbala while resisting oppression, injustice, and tyranny,” said BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman in a post on his official Facebook on Saturday, eve of Ashura.
Recalling the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain and the sacrifices in order to fight against corruption, injustice, and cruelty, Tarique added, “Over the past 16 years, the fallen Awami fascist government has established a reign of unimaginable oppression – staging fraudulent elections, stripping people of their voting rights, enforced disappearances, extrajudicial killings, terrorism, violence, and the plundering of national wealth.”
He went on to state that unjust imprisonment of his mother, BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia, “through fabricated cases, [deprived] her of proper medical care and [pushed] her to the brink of death mirrors the cruelty of Yazid forces.”
The brutal cruelty imposed by Awami League leaders who are no longer in the country, he said, are no less of an atrocity.
In conclusion, before paying tribute to the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) in his final words, he took inspiration from the Prophet’s grandson, stating, “Today, the spirit of Imam Hussain (RA) and his companions’ sacrifice compels us to continue our relentless struggle until justice and righteousness prevail in our nation. Their resistance must forever inspire us to prevent the rise of merciless tyrants.”
He signed off thus: “Allah Hafez, Bangladesh zindabaad.”
