Ambassador Asad Alam Siam, currently serving as Bangladesh’s envoy to the United States, is set to take charge as the new Foreign Secretary. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has completed all necessary administrative procedures for his appointment.
Siam will assume office immediately after returning to Dhaka on Friday.
Acting Foreign Secretary Md Nazrul Islam stated today: “He will return to Dhaka on Friday and take over the responsibilities shortly thereafter.”
The promotion process for his appointment as secretary was finalised on Wednesday.
A BCS (Foreign Service Cadre) 15th batch officer, Siam previously served as Bangladesh’s Permanent Representative to the UN in Vienna, Austria, and as Ambassador to the Philippines before his Washington assignment.
Prior to his ambassadorial roles, he held the position of Chief of Protocol. During the military-backed caretaker government’s tenure, Siam worked as director at the office of then-Foreign Secretary Md Touhid Hossain.
