Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has expressed his satisfaction with the club’s swift and strategic business in the early stages of the summer transfer window, saying the new arrivals have brought a “new excitement” and raised expectations ahead of the 2025–26 Premier League season.
Speaking to reporters in Singapore on Monday ahead of a pre-season friendly against Serie A giants AC Milan, Arteta praised the club’s backing and its efforts to bolster the squad following three consecutive second-place league finishes.
“We signed very important players. They bring new excitement, a new energy as well,” Arteta said. “Everybody feels like their height has to go to a different level, and that’s what we’re seeking.”
The Gunners have already secured the services of winger Noni Madueke and goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga from Chelsea, along with midfielders Christian Nørgaard from Brentford and Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad.
Arteta was particularly pleased that much of the business was completed early in the window. “Ideally, you want it done on day one in pre-season. We’ve done very, very well so far. I’m very pleased with the way the club is supporting the necessities and improvements that we required in the team.”
Swedish striker Viktor Gyökeres, who netted a staggering 54 goals in 52 appearances for Sporting last season, is also widely expected to join the North London club in the coming weeks.
“There’s still a long time in the window, and we are seeking,” Arteta added. “In terms of numbers, we are short, and we have to improve the depth and the quality of the squad.”
Despite continuing to monitor the market, the Spaniard remains focused on preparing his current squad. “Until that happens, I can focus on the players that we actually have, work with them, and I’m very pleased with what I’ve seen so far in the first 10-15 days.”
Arteta also briefly addressed questions surrounding former midfielder Thomas Partey, who left the club at the end of last season and was recently charged with rape and sexual assault. “I think the club was very clear in its statement,” he said. “There are a lot of legal matters that are very complicated so I cannot comment on any of that.”
Asked if the club had handled the matter appropriately, he responded: “100%, yes.”
Meanwhile, Brazilian defender Gabriel Magalhães told the BBC he believes this season could be the one where Arsenal finally go all the way.
“I think the players that came will help us out a lot. The club is doing what is best for the players and the manager,” Gabriel said. “We have let a couple of titles slip through our fingers recently. We almost won, but I think this year, things will be different.”
Arsenal will begin their Premier League campaign on 17 August with a marquee trip to Manchester United.
