The Bangladesh Army has issued a formal clarification regarding a recent administrative letter that was widely circulated on social media, stating that the document has been misinterpreted and taken out of context.
In a statement released on Saturday, Army Headquarters said the letter—originally drafted in response to a request from the National Independent Inquiry Commission investigating the 2009 BDR mutiny at Pilkhana—sought documentation of past incidents involving alleged mistreatment of army personnel by members of the Bangladesh Police.
The military emphasised that the purpose of the letter was purely administrative and aimed at supporting the work of the commission. It had no intention of triggering institutional tension or public controversy.
To prevent any misunderstanding or unintended consequences, the letter was promptly withdrawn, the Army said, stressing that the communication was never meant for public circulation.
“Certain interest groups are deliberately distorting this issue to create mistrust and misunderstanding between the Bangladesh Army and Bangladesh Police,” the statement read, accusing unnamed actors of exploiting the situation for divisive ends.
Reaffirming the long-standing cooperation between the two forces, the Army noted that both institutions have consistently worked together with mutual respect to uphold national security and maintain public order.
The statement concluded with a call to the public and media to refrain from sharing misleading or agenda-driven content, particularly on social media, that could undermine inter-agency harmony.
